Black History Month Quote(s) of the day...

“I know no national boundary where the Negro is concerned. The whole world is my province until Africa is free.”
“The whole world is run on bluff”
“Let it be your constant method to look into the design of people's actions, and see what they would be at, as often as it is practicable; and to make this custom the more significant, practice it first upon yourself.”
“Liberate the minds of men and ultimately you will liberate the bodies of men.”
“God and Nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always that great law. Let the sky and God be our limit and Eternity our measurement.”
“The Black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness”

Black History Quote of the day....

As a Poet and Writer I can soooooooo feel June on this quote:
'As a poet and writer, I deeply love and I deeply hate words. I love the infinite evidence and change and requirements and possibilities of language; every human use of words that is joyful, or honest or new, because experience is new. . . . But as a Black poet and writer, I hate words that cancel my name and my history and the freedom of my future: I hate the words that condemn and refuse the language of my people in America.'

Virginia Lawmakers Pass Slavery Apology....Well ((Maybe)) It's A Start...

Last month, Delegate Frank D. Hargrove said that "black citizens should get over" slavery. The 80-year-old Republican voted for the "symbolic measure."
By LARRY O'DELL
AP
RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 24) - Meeting on the grounds of the former Confederate Capitol, the Virginia General Assembly voted unanimously Saturday to express "profound regret" for the state's role in slavery.
Sponsors of the resolution say they know of no other state that has apologized for slavery, although Missouri lawmakers are considering such a measure. The resolution does not carry the weight of law but sends an important symbolic message, supporters said.
"This session will be remembered for a lot of things, but 20 years hence I suspect one of those things will be the fact that we came together and passed this resolution," said Delegate A. Donald McEachin, a Democrat who sponsored it in the House of Delegates. The resolution passed the House 96-0 and cleared the 40-member Senate on a unanimous voice vote. It does not require Gov. Timothy M. Kaine's approval. The measure also expressed regret for "the exploitation of Native Americans." The resolution was introduced as Virginia begins its celebration of the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, where the first Africans arrived in 1619. Richmond, home to a popular boulevard lined with statues of Confederate heroes, later became another point of arrival for Africans and a slave-trade hub.

The resolution was introduced as Virginia begins its celebration of the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, where the first Africans arrived in 1619. Richmond, home to a popular boulevard lined with statues of Confederate heroes, later became another point of arrival for Africans and a slave-trade hub.
The resolution says government-sanctioned slavery "ranks as the most horrendous of all depredations of human rights and violations of our founding ideals in our nation's history, and the abolition of slavery was followed by systematic discrimination, enforced segregation, and other insidious institutions and practices toward Americans of African descent that were rooted in racism, racial bias, and racial misunderstanding." In Virginia, black voter turnout was suppressed with a poll tax and literacy tests before those practices were struck down by federal courts, and state leaders responded to federally ordered school desegregation with a "Massive Resistance" movement in the 1950s and early '60s. Some communities created exclusive whites-only schools.
The apology is the latest in a series of strides Virginia has made in overcoming its segregationist past. Virginia was the first state to elect a black governor - L. Douglas Wilder in 1989 - and the Legislature took a step toward atoning for Massive Resistance in 2004 by creating a scholarship fund for blacks whose schools were shut down between 1954 and 1964. Among those voting for the measure was Delegate Frank D. Hargrove, an 80-year-old Republican who infuriated black leaders last month by saying "black citizens should get over" slavery.
After enduring a barrage of criticism, Hargrove successfully co-sponsored a resolution calling on Virginia to celebrate "Juneteenth," a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

My book of Poetry

HEY FAM AND FRIENDS....I've decided to release my book of poetry in HARD COPY...below is a excerpt from the book you can purchase a copy by clicking this link: www.themaatseries.com/custom4.html
When Lisa Smiles
arduously reminded, I back in time
canvassing the shifting, blistering moments
suspended, tormenting still, one’s mind
crooked days brewing desire, irony interwoven
love adoration in closed, unjustly forsaken
often in thou’s name I angle myself
envisioning what and where your are, perilously taken
unremitting those days offer deceiving wealth
even aton leaves me unabsolved
say what you will protest ! grimace in pain
profusely my heart bleeds pulsating unresolved
thusly, bitter sweetly I meekly speak her name
from the cradle to the grave I’ve known her smile
slowly killing me all the while
What's so FUNNY about all this is...
UMMMMMMMM

I ((really)) LIKE Ellen and her show ((even tho i don't get to see it that much)) but who's to say she's the new 'IT' Girl? what EXACTLY does that mean anyway?? Black History Quote Of The Day...

Love this sista and this quote sums up MY thoughts EXACTLY:
'Of course I’m a black writer. . . . I’m not just a black writer, but categories like black writer, woman writer and Latin American writer aren’t marginal anymore. We have to acknowledge that the thing we call “literature” is more pluralistic now, just as society ought to be. The melting pot never worked. We ought to be able to accept on equal terms everybody from the Hasidim to Walter Lippmann, from the Rastafarians to Ralph Bunche. '

How to SPOT A PLAYA

Peace and Blessings Family and Friends...
Ok this morning I have spoken to THREE female friends of mine and two of em told me they caught their 'man' cheating and another said she DOESN'T 'understand' 'men'....Well im glad two of the THREE bought my book...cuz i COVER all of the above... but let me break down some things for u ladies...((i'm comin OFF the top of my head but all i state is pretty much covered in my book)) but here are some ways to spot LYIN AZZ 'MEN' and their 'game'
1. It AINT about trying to FIGURE 'men' or even dating 'out' its about u knowing u LADIES!- Remember this FUNDAMENTAL law when it comes to dating: U CHOOSE US ...WE ONLY STEP TO U...but U have the FINAL say in who's hookin up and who AINT...that's POWER choose BETTER! which leads me to:
2. CHOOSING BETTER MATES AND DATES-My Sistas, there's NO WAY u can 'choose better' until u r DOING better in your own life...How you 'expect to get a 'GOOD' man if you aint 'GOOD' yourself? This means if u r NOT striving to be all u were created to be how can u expect the 'right' man to enter the door? I'm talkin career, values, physical, mental and spiritual health here...are u striving for ALL of those things in your own life..and if so...
3. You are TRULY doin YOU- If you can HONESTLY say u r living your life to the FULLEST then u r congregating to places where men who are into some of the things that u r already are...if u r into jazz u r at jazz clubs and festivals if u r into art u r at galleries and museums if u r spiritual u r at church or the mosque and so forth...this doesnt mean u r there to 'find a better man' it means that u r STRIVING to be all u can while embracing things that honor and interest u...at the end of the day that's what it's about...but....
4. If you are DOING ALL THOSE things -you are or should be trying to understand the dating world AND us 'men' better ..besides buying my book u should also be studying and optimistic about your future dating life...and in the meantime NOT settling for men who u do NOT share the same values and interests with ....in other words ((just cuz he's 'cute' or has money , game, screws well, or has a 'NICE' personality and makes u feel good does NOT mean u should be investing time in him)) if u dont have the same values and goals in life...u should lay in the cut and chill...what's the rush in finding a man? find yourself FIRST! the rest will come easy...
5. How to spot if he's lying -sometimes u can't ....but there are ways that can help...if u and dude are in a relationship....there should be no closed doors...u should be able to read his text and notes online and vice versa u should be able to go through his phone and vice versa...there's NOTHING that should be a SECRET if u two r in fact in a RELATIONSHIP...now u can make it 'fun' u can by doing a DAILY or WEEKLY or monthly check of each others bizness but make it fun and creative.. but if he has issues with this then its a SIGN that he could be playing GAMES AND CHEATING...i'm ALL for trust and privacy..but there's no way im gonna have a NEED to hide ANYTHING FROM MY woman....
6. REAL COMMUNICATION IS A MUST!!-WHEN I SAY 'REAL' communication i'm actually saying HEALTHY COMMUNICATION......THAT means that u don't communication where u r just talking to ALWAYS be right ...im talking about communication where u know how to listen, not insist on being 'right' and when u talk or communicate with your 'lover' that u speak from a place of love, compassion, and understanding all for the betterment of the relationship and growing as a person and couple...speaking of which..
7. The ONLY reason YOU SHOULD IN RELATIONSHIP IS.....TO GROW as a person and couple and come closer to GOD and/or the universe...ask yourself can or is the person u r with helping u grow as a person? Are you helping them? Are you better off (beyond the sex and money with this person) do u complement each other well?? have u talked about the future and what's the plan? both long and short tem....all these and MORE need to be discussed and thought about on a regular basis....
8. How is he OUTSIDE of the bedroom ? If he's 'EXTRA' nice JUST BEFORE sex is going down and a JERK..for much of the rest of the time...his azz is usin u for sex! ...and playing at love to ONLY get the sex....GET MY BOOK FOR more of a BREAKDOWN...
9. END YOUR RELATIONSHIP ILLITERACY now!! -LOOK LADIES ((AND GENTS)) did u take a 'relationship' course in high school? did u go through a rites of passage program that prepared u for a relationship? did u witness one while growing up between your mom and DAD OR MOM AND BOYFRIENDS? how many books have u read? how many relationship events have u gone to and ACTUALLY learned sumthin? In such a CRAZY world that's NOT currently based on or ABOUT LOVE, ..LOVE AND RELATIONSHIPS ARE NOT EASY OR 'NATURAL' THEY TAKE TIME PATIENCE UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE... speaking of which...
10. My book is more than me JUST trying to build my business and paying some bills-Both my mother andf father died of broken hearts at relatively YOUNG ages...and we have NOW have MORE of our children (upwards of 60-70% of our kids without BOTH parents at home) what kind of ISH IS THAT?? I wonder (if the world is still here in 20 years) how will the dating options look for my 4 year old niece... what kind of world are we PREPARING FOR them?? ... well these and many other reasons are my contribution and why i wrote the book ..im SO concerned about our folk ...when we talk about relationships it ALL starts with dating and hence the reasons above and more are why we need as much info as possible...so with all that SAID .... please get a copy of my book by clicking the link below:
